In a new book – Learning to See: Inside the world's leading art and design schools, published by MIT Press – our guest today, Professor Keith Sawyer explores the way that people see and learn to see, offering an engaging and profound account of how professional artists and designers create and how they teach others to do it.
I really enjoyed this conversation! Even though it's about artists and designers, there are many lessons for creativity in business and other settings. The book doesn't talk about business and it's not a business book, but the underlying essence is so much the same: Curiosity, awareness, problem finding, iteration, failure, exploration...familiar words for creativity fans but these artists and designers are so articulate that they give you new insights about the process!
Thanks, Keith... it was an absolute pleasure! As you say, the book is not about creativity in an organisational or work setting, but the insights you provide are nonetheless enormously important!
